Inspiring Behavior Change for Sustainable, Healthy, and Equitable Communities
It's that time of year again — the PNSMA Quarterly Forum! This time around, we will discuss the launch of the distracted driving law. Shelly Baldwin, the Legislative and Media Manager for the Washington Traffic Safety Commission will be sharing with us more details on their work to change distracted driving behaviors.
Shelly works with commissioners and stakeholders to develop WSTC’s legislative agenda and conduct legislative outreach and advocacy to support that agenda. She also leads efforts to develop and implement the agency's communications plan with the mission of encouraging safe driving behaviors. At the forum, Shelly will tell the story of how Washington’s new distracted driving law was passed, including a surprise implementation date that was 18 months before the expected date. She’ll share how the agency is using social marketing principals to change distracted driving behaviors, both with a “make me” approach leveraging the new law and future plans to use a “help me” approach targeting moms.
