Are you passionate about engaging community members to help them get where they need to go safely and efficiently? We'd like to meet you! We're specifically encouraging people with backgrounds in community organizing, nonprofit program management, social marketing, and communications experience to apply, even if you're not a transportation expert.

Alta is hiring a Programs Specialist. In this role, you will lead and support projects by designing, implementing, and evaluating transportation programs that help people walk, bike, and take transit more often, and more safely.

This position is based in Alta’s headquarters in Portland, OR, though we may be open to Seattle-based candidates. The position is remote at present but will be located in our office once we can reopen.

This position will lead and support many types of transportation campaigns, including the following:

    • Media campaigns
    • Outreach, marketing, and communications
    • Education programs
    • Transportation Demand Management (TDM) and programs
    • Traffic safety campaigns
We don’t expect candidates to already have experience managing all these types of projects, but we do need you to have transferable experience managing campaigns, programs, and/or projects in some capacity.

A day in the life at this job might involve setting up and preparing questions for focus groups with neighborhood residents; developing a campaign marketing and outreach strategy; coordinating with our graphic design team to produce marketing materials; coordinating and overseeing the activities of remote outreach staff; and writing and implementing social media and other communications activities to support campaigns.

We offer you a positive, collaborative workplace; an involved and supportive manager invested in your professional development; interesting, meaningful work that will challenge and reward you; and an outstanding benefits package that includes health insurance, 401K match, transit and bikeshare subsidies, wellness benefits, a bike room, and on-site showers.
