Multicultural marketing and community engagement are evolving. Today’s most successful multicultural outreach strategies are increasingly those that apply core diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) values to reach diverse audiences effectively, respectfully, and meaningfully. In this session, we will explore how DEI and multicultural marketing and community engagement can work together to create more equitable campaigns and programs and share proven best practices for applying DEI principles within the context of marketing communications and engagement.

Our speakers

Jennifer González loves telling stories—particularly when they involve travel, innovation and sharing cultural insights. As a conscious leader and multicultural communications strategist, she understands the power of connecting with people of all backgrounds. Her childhood roots growing up in Mexico City and her passion for traveling the world to learn about other cultures shape much of what she does, whether at work guiding clients on ways to better engage with diverse audiences, or at home where she is raising a bilingual/bicultural global citizen.

Jennifer’s appetite for experiencing different cultures took her to Los Angeles as a young professional, where she built a reputation for implementing groundbreaking social marketing campaigns that helped young Hispanics access Cash for College, empowered low-income Latinas to be Champions for Change, helped vaccinate women in Africa against tetanus in an effort led by Pampers and Salma Hayek, and set a couple of Guinness World Records along the way! As the leader of C+C’s multicultural communications team, she’s been at the forefront of multicultural social marketing strategies for the Washington State Department of Health’s COVID-19 prevention and vaccination efforts, as well as campaigns for King County’s Hazardous Waste Management Program, Washington Traffic Safety Commission, Alaska Airlines, Energy Trust of Oregon, and King County Metro, among others.

Alejandro Paredes brings his passion for marketing, communications, sustainability, and communities to everything he does. As Cascadia's co-Director of Communications and Engagement services, he provides strategy and oversight to projects with an added equity and inclusion lens. Building from his strengths, background, and over 11 years of experience across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, he juggles managing projects and providing strategic input for inclusive engagement and community-based social marketing programs. Alejandro strives for continuous improvement in processes and seeks collaboration and creative ideas from others to find the best possible solutions.  He is fluent in Spanish and English. Alejandro’s three pillars are his thoughtful demeanor, listening skills, and hard work ethic. When he isn’t juggling multiple projects, he loves to explore the world, watch all the TV he can, sometimes read books, and enjoy his family to the fullest.
